yes, this is about the election

(disclaimer:my goal is not to offend, just to share a little of my thoughts)
i've been quite surprised to hear some of the reactions about our new president-some for him, some against him...but most all have strong options. i, of course, am no exception. today in my old testament class (about the kingdom of israel and its prophets), we had a little time of processing the results of the election and heard some different opinions on what people thing. my professor is a democrat and admitted that he voted for obama, with some reservations, though...so, it was especially interesting to hear his opinion about these things. in studying the kings and prophets in the old testament, there are patterns within that still hold true today. so, we discussed obama's win in light of these things. the bottom line is, obama is merely a man with some good and some bad...and i imagine that is just what we will be able to say about his presidency reign after 4 years. he will do some things right (i think especially about how he seems to be an advocate for the poor) and he will do some things wrong (heavy on my mind right now is the abortion issue-it is a HUGE deal and he has made some poor decisions already about these things, it seems)....but this fact makes him just the same as all the presidents (and all kinds of other leaders here and there) that have gone before him and all the ones who will follow. this change that he is ushering in will not be the ultimate change that we are hoping for...
i've heard quite a few people refer to obama as a muslim and say negative things about this, but some clarification needs to happen (for all 5 of you who actually read my blog!): not only does he not claim to be a muslim, but he claims to be a follower of christ. and, as christians, we need to pray that this is true and that God would protect him (not just physically, but spiritually-from falling into the traps of sin and self) during his time as president (and after, too). the bottom line is, he is the president-elect, whether i voted for him or not...and the new testament says very specific things about the authority God has placed over us.
on a lighter note, i am bummed that sarah is not our new vp. i was quite impressed by her and hope to see her run again in the future. regardless of what the media says, she sounded quite equipped and ready for such a huge thing.

I get so tired of the Obama == muslim and Obama == anti-Christ stuff that I've heard for so long from some Christians. There are so many things that legitimately are problems with his proposed policies and possibly his character that it is ridiculous that people harped on those false items so much (and no doubt will continue to do so for 4-8 years to come).

I hate how the election turned out, and I refuse to compromise on what I believe to be right, but I'm not going to be like the fringe left has been for 8 years ("not my president" "is it 2008 yet?" "f*** bush" etc.). He's my president now, like it or not. And Romans 13 says how God has given us our leaders and we must give them proper respect.

We certainly do need to pray that God will give him wisdom... God knows he needs it, with so much at stake.

Oh yeah, and Sarah Palin is way hotter than Joe Biden.

And much more substantially, she was a true conservative, unlike McCain. She could have done with greater experience, but someone with her policy positions ought to have been the GOP Presidential candidate, and not just the VP. I believe the GOP's loss is greatly due to the great extent of their abandonment of conservatism. They've become "Democrat Party Lite", thinking that would make them more electable. They were 100% wrong. Everywhere conservatism was actually on the ballot in this election (CA's Proposition 8, FL's similar constitutional amendment, and the few solidly conservative Republicans up for election in some states), it won handily.

I see great opportunity for 2010 and 2012 in the situation that has come to pass.

I for one very much so agree with you on the Sarah Palin comment you made in your blog. I do hope to see her again in four years running and presenting a strong campaign like she did this time around. On the muslim issue, he was very much so muslim educated, and he testified to that. I am sorry if I offended you in any way. I personally hear everybody claiming to be Christians these days, and I personally don't see it in Obama's views or his reasonings. I have a big problem with partial-birth abortion or abortion in general, and I know you do as well. I for one do know that you have to stand before God one day on what you do support whether it be abortion, gay marriage, etc. Knowing Obama's views on these subjects alone really makes it hard for me to mark him as a believer, but who am I to judge. I am not the one that is supposed to be marking him as a believer anyway. I am however in much prayer for Obama. He is going to need it especially with the views he supports so if he is a believer I trust that he will make Godly decisions even though he did not present Godly views within his campaign.

My thoughts are in line with Samantha's - regardless of how we voted - Mr. Obama is the President Elect and he will be the President of the US for at least 4 years. We are told that we should be supportive of those in authority - give unto Casear what is Casear's -We must remember that God is in control regardless of what man or woman is in office. They are mere humans.
Samantha is wise to say that we should be in prayer for Mr. Obama, but not only him, his cabinet, the senators and representatives as well. It is important to lift them up for protection, wisdom to make the right decision and conviction of wrong doing.
We are all sinners and have no right to judge anyone. Judgment is in God's hand. We do have the responsibility to be God-like, be a light to the world - so we should follow His word and support our government.

#5 chiming in... It is so cool how we can have the same thoughts and still be so many miles away from each other. Maybe God is talking to us! :)
